Kounty Kids has been in operation since October 1989. The center is owned and operated by Darlene Pearce and Linda McElroy, both certified childcare providers. Mrs. McElroy and Mrs. Pearce opened the center because they were in search of a day care center that offered a loving, learning, Christian environment for their own children. Both women felt that there was a need for such a center in the local community.
The philosophy of Kounty Kids is to provide such a setting. This is a place where children are provided with a structured, age-appropriate, learning environment. At the same time that the children are being taught the basics in preparation for moving on to elementary school, they are also taught self discipline and personal responsibility, respect and consideration for the rights of others, manners and common courtesy, and other moral behavior that is in keeping with Christian traditions.
Kountry Kids is licensed by the State of Florida for up to 73 children ages two through second grade. There are three teachers and four day care providers at the center, besides Mrs. McElroy and Mrs. Pearce.
Snacks are provided for the children in the morning and afternoon. Bus service is available from Chiefland Elementary School in the afternoon to transport after school care children to the center.
